
Two minors among 3 arrested in high-value Janakpuri theft case
Delhi Police have apprehended three individuals, including two juveniles, in connection with a major burglary in the Janakpuri area of west Delhi, officials said on Sunday. Stolen valuables estimated to be worth nearly ₹1.15 crore have been recovered from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Divyansh Sharma alias Babbu (18) , a resident of Janakpuri, along with two minors. Police said the burglary came to light after a PCR call was received on February 22 reporting a break-in at a commercial premises in the locality.
A police team rushed to the spot and found the staircase wall damaged, with several items scattered inside the building. The locks of rooms on the first, second and third floors had been forcibly opened.
According to the complainant, who operates a shop in the premises, he had shut the establishment around 9.30 pm on February 21 and left for his rented accommodation. When he returned the following morning at about 11.15 am , he discovered that unknown persons had entered the building during the night and stolen a large quantity of gold and diamond jewellery, silver articles and cash.
An FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita , and an investigation was initiated.
Acting on a tip-off received on February 24 , police detained the two juveniles near Possangipur Park . During questioning, they revealed the involvement of Sharma, who was later arrested.
During interrogation, the trio allegedly admitted to planning and carrying out the burglary together. On their disclosure, police recovered around 650 grams of gold jewellery , nearly three kilograms of silver articles , and ₹7,00,119 in cash , along with other valuables. A motorcycle used in the commission of the crime was also seized.
Officials said the total value of the recovered property is estimated at approximately ₹1.15 crore . Further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused were involved in similar offences in the area.
