The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has finalized seat-sharing agreements with two of its smaller allies, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK), allotting two seats each for the upcoming Assembly elections.

The announcement was made by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin , who also serves as DMK president, at the party’s state headquarters, Anna Arivalayam , following talks on February 28 , according to an official party release. IUML candidates will contest on their traditional ladder symbol , while MMK candidates will use the DMK’s Rising Sun symbol .

DMK is currently in negotiations with other allies, including the Congress and the Vaiko-led MDMK . During discussions with Congress, the DMK reportedly offered a Rajya Sabha seat to the party. Talks with remaining coalition partners, namely the VCK and DMDK , have not yet commenced .

The ruling DMK-led alliance currently comprises six parties , including DMK itself. With IUML and MMK finalized, four partners are yet to finalize seat allocations .

This strategic maneuvering is seen as an effort by the DMK to consolidate its coalition base and strengthen its position ahead of the elections.
